A poor dish, but full of flavours: the Brodetto festival
A journey is made up of many experiences, but undoubtedly the ones that are impressed most strongly in a visitor's memory involve food. There is no holiday in the Marche worthy of the name without a dive into the local cuisine, capable of offering ancient traditions, quality ingredients and genuine flavours. The region itself is aware of how rich the area is in opportunities from this point of view, and has decided to proudly celebrate it by organizing numerous food and wine festivals in the Marche region, in all seasons.
Among the best known summer culinary festivals, the BrodettoFest stands out, the Festival entirely dedicated to the homonymous traditional dish. The brodetto - locally known as brudèt - is a fish soup that was born as a poor dish, consumed by sailors during long fishing days and prepared with the less noble parts of the fish. However, over time it has become one of the most characteristic recipes of the region, made today with many varieties of fish (traditionally at least a dozen). The brodetto is consumed in various areas of the Marche region, but Fano is the undisputed capital of this delicacy , where in fact a festival dedicated to it is organized every year at the beginning of June. During the event, the brodetto becomes the protagonist of tastings, lunches, dinners, cooking shows, workshops, conferences and above all pairings with local wines, a must if you want a 360° gastronomic experience.
Truffles and vincisgrassi: the summer festivals in the Marche that celebrate these delicacies
If the sea offers excellent products to the gastronomic tradition of the Marche region, the land is no less the custodian of another local excellence: the truffle. Although the latter's favorite season is autumn, (with festivals and events in the Marche usually ranging from September to November), the summer truffle is celebrated in July and in various areas of the region, a black variant that is less prized than others , but excellent both as a flavor enhancer for pasta and risotto, and as a delicious addition to cheeses and cured meats. Therefore, if you reside in one of our villas in Acqualagna, such as Villa Montefalcone - where truffle hunting events are also organized in different seasons - or near Amandola, you already know how to spend a day outdoors 'sign of good cuisine, including stalls for tasting and stands for the purchase of local products.
If, on the other hand, you are a fan of homemade and genuine products, of those that could be found in the houses of the Marche grandmothers, you absolutely cannot miss the Sagra dei Vincisgrassi di Osimo. This first course of the Marche culinary tradition, in some ways resembles a classic lasagna, as it consists of rectangular sheets of boiled and dried egg pasta. Instead of Bolognese sauce, however, Vincisgrassi involves the use of meat cut into coarser pieces and flavored with cloves and nutmeg. Celebrating this dish means celebrating one of the emblems of the region, for which obtaining the STG denomination (Traditional Specialty Guaranteed) was required. The Vincisgrassi Festival is an event that smacks of family, during which you can eat this preparation in the company of musical interventions and participate in the annual lottery.
Marche, a place of…wine!
The Marches are a land of great wine labels, such as the Conero DOCG reds and the Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, and the unmissable Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi as far as the whites are concerned. A summer festival, the Verdicchio in Festa, in Montecarotto is dedicated to the latter. Organized every year towards the end of July, the Verdicchio in Festival is a tradition that has lasted for more than 50 years and which celebrates this excellent white with a floral and fruity aroma, excellent as a combination with seafood and white meats. The Festival is also an opportunity to involve the best local producers, as well as to promote the culture of good wine through tastings, food pairings, musical performances, conferences and exhibitions.
Another typical delight of the Marches is the Vino Cotto, a sweet wine of ancient origin (it perhaps dates back to Ancient Rome) produced in different areas of the province of Macerata and Piceno, with a preponderance for the locality of Loro Piceno. Here the production techniques of cooked wine are a real institution, an ancient custom of millennia handed down from generation to generation. It derives from the boiling of the must and was mainly consumed by farmers to regain energy after a long day at work, or offered on the occasion of visits from relatives and friends. Today it is considered an excellent dessert wine, especially to accompany dry pastries. You can taste it at some local restaurant or take part in the Sagra del Vino Cotto di Loro Piceno, organized every August. Stands, shows, stalls for the purchase of products, cultural events, tastings and interventions by experts: that of Vino Cotto is not only one of the most popular festivals in the Marche region, but it is an unmissable appointment for those who want to get to know this region through its most ancient traditions.
