The Gola del Furlo
The Latin term from which it takes its name - forulum, i.e. "small hole" - definitely does not do justice to the Gola del Furlo, a natural spectacle nestled between Mount Pietralata and Mount Paganuccio (in the province of Pesaro Urbino). So if you are staying at Casale degli Ulivi or another of our villas in Acqualagna - not far from this area - you can't miss this itinerary, even better if you finish it off with an aperitif or a dinner based on local truffle!
More than a small hole, la Gola is a real canyon created by the erosive work of the Candigliano river, which over the centuries has worked the rock with the insistence that only nature can have. The route to start this beautiful excursion in the Marche region is simple and within everyone's reach (even if you are traveling with children or need to push a stroller). It is sufficient to walk along the Candigliano river starting from the Visitor Center of the Gola del Furlo State Nature Reserve, along a pedestrian road that winds between the walls of the canyon and which enters an ancient tunnel dating back to the Rome of Vespasian (I AD).
The route allows you to admire not only the river, but also the imposing dam built in the 1920s. If, on the other hand, you want to try something a little more adventurous and challenging, you can test yourself along the path of about 1 hour and a half which starts from the dam and leads through the woods up to a panoramic area which will allow you to see the so-called Head of the Duce, i.e. what remains of the profile of Benito Mussolini sculpted in the 1930s on one of the slopes of Pietralata, but later destroyed by the partisans. But above all you will be able to admire the Gorge from above and take some postcard photos!
The Ring of Portonovo
On the maps it is called "path 309", but for less informal hikers it is known as Portonovo ring. This panoramic itinerary - an important point of interest in the Monte Conero Natural Park - winds along a circular route (the name, in fact, is no coincidence) lasting about 1 hour and a half, flat and easy walking. This means that you can fully enjoy it even if you are not a trained sportsman or if you simply want to take a scenic walk in the Marche region.
You can start from the small square of Portonovo, appreciating the pedestrian path that runs alongside the Lago Grande, the natural habitat of numerous species. The itinerary continues through the fascinating glimpses halfway between the sea and the Mediterranean scrub, touching various points of interest: first the beautiful Portonovo Bay, with its white pebbles, and the Pier.
Here the view can range, embracing a wide glimpse of the sea that really leaves you speechless. Along the path you come across the Guard Tower, built in 1700 to defend the area from pirate raids, the Romanesque church of Santa Maria di Portonovo, as well as the lakes and coasts flanking Monte Conero.
Panoramic walks in the Marche: Le Lame Rosse
Among the best-known natural attractions of the Sibillini Mountains are the Lame Rosse (red blades), located above Lake Fiastra. These are pyramidal rock formations of stratified gravel, silt and clay, developed in height and born from the erosion of atmospheric agents, which over time have given life to wonderful pinnacles, also called "fairy chimneys".
You can reach this point of interest via a simple and not very steep itinerary. The Sentiero per le Lame Rosse is in fact about 7 km long, round trip. You can start right from Lake Fiastra (without forgetting to dedicate some time to the contemplation of the latter!), along a road that begins right near its dam and winds through a tree-lined area, up to the base of the formations. The ideal days to admire the canyon are the sunniest, during which the clear sky seems to frame the heights like a painting. However, man does not have a hand here: Nature took care of creating this work of art!
The Christ of the Marches
The landscapes of the Marche region are what make millions of tourists fall in love with them every year. One of the many ways to appreciate them is to reach the Christ of the Marches, a black granite sculpture that stands on the heights of the region, conquering the gaze and hearts with its symbolic simplicity.
There are many itineraries to reach this work of art - created by Nazzareno Rocchetti -. The least demanding is to get there by car, but if what you want is to enjoy a panoramic walk in the Marche region, you can opt for one of the many paths that lead to the sculpture and to the Domus San Bonfilio hermitage, which stands not far from it. One of these is relatively simple and suitable even in the warmer periods, as it crosses the shady Bosco Tassinete (which is home to the largest yew tree in the region) along properly signposted roads.
You can stop from time to time along the path to enjoy the splendid view, which - in some points - will allow you to see the village of Cingoli in the distance. Addressed by signs through meadows, fields and a horse stable, you will finally arrive at the Cristo delle Marche, which is just one of the many wonders of this place. The subject of this sculpture, devoid of a cross, almost seems to embrace the surrounding hills and woods: a breathtaking sight!
The Passo del Lupo path
If you are a fan of excursions immersed in wild nature, you will certainly appreciate the Passo del Lupo path, one of the most beautiful nature trails in the Marches, which from the village of Sirolo reaches various panoramic points.
You can start from the Sirolo cemetery, following a small road that crosses the wood. The itinerary is simple, well signposted and basically flat, also suitable for children, provided they have suitable trekking shoes, but not recommended for pushchairs. Viewpoints are scattered along the entire route: one is Pian Grande, an area from which you can admire the wildest and most fascinating side of the Adriatic coast, while even more beautiful is the view you can enjoy if reach the Belvedere Nord , a balcony overlooking the sea and from which you can let the view wander for miles and miles of blue.
